Our Consignment Policy and Pricing Scale

One of the services of The Homeschoolers Hangout is selling books on consignment.   Due to some confusion our Consignment Policy has been UPDATED!

2008 Consignment Policy

WHAT IS THE STORE LOOKING FOR? Due to limited space, we will now be accepting only textbooks, teacher's editions, readers and unmarked workbooks in good, resalable condition.  We will also accept Switched On Schoolhouse Software from the last two years only.  We will accept foreign language CD's and cassettes as long as none are missing.  Any materials that are NOT CURRENT (ie- can't be bought from the publisher anymore) must have all the components or we cannot accept them.

WHO SETS THE PRICE OF THE BOOKS? You may price the material however you wish. If you would like any help or advice, please don't hesitate to ask. Realize that if you overprice your item it may not sell.

WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN SETTING A PRICE? - Is it a current edition? - What is the condition of the book? - Are there any stray marks? - How popular is the particular curriculum? - Are companion workbooks readily available, if applicable?

HOW MUCH WILL I RECEIVE AFTER IT SELLS? We will pay you 70% of the selling price , and we mail out checks once a month as long as your account balance is $10 or more.  You may also have Store Credit instead of a check.

HOW LONG WILL YOU KEEP MY BOOKS ON THE SHELF?  At the end of the 6 month contract period we will contact you to determine if you want to extend for another 6 month period and reduce your prices or leave them as is, put them in our free box or terminate your contract with us.

HOW DO I START?
1. Come in to the store with your items and fill out the Consignment Contract.
2. We will assign you a customer number and place a price sticker on each book.
3. We will place the books on our consignment shelves, and they'll be ready for sale!

Insurance and Loss: We take reasonable measures to secure all materials from theft, in store damages, and fire. The Homeschoolers Hanout and/or its owners are not responsible for and cannot be held liable for loss or damage of items due to theft, fire, in store damages, or acts of God, including but not limited to hurricanes, tornadoes, or flood. We cannot assume liability for or insure against loss for consigned materials, as they are legally deemed to be the property of the consignee until they are sold, however the items are legally bound under the terms of the signed contract.

We encourage you to consign your homeschool curriculum with us.  If you live outside the Lockhart, TX area you may be thinking, “it is impractical for me to consign my books with a store in Lockhart.” But consider this; If you were to ship us 25 books weighing 30 pounds or less (25 misc.curriculum books were just under 30 lbs.) using Media Mail at the USPS, the shipping charges would be $12.29 (2007 rate).  If those books sold for an average sale price of $6.00, the gross income from those books would be $150.00. Now, at a 70% consignment rate less your shipping, you would net $92.71.  If you have books that are of higher value, you could profit even more than this!  So please consider consigning your homeschool materials with us.

Lockhart/Austin and surrounding areas have a very large market of homeschoolers to buy your books in addition to an online web exposure to the entire country.  Together we can profit from your books! Thank you for your support.
